MANHATTAN, Kan. — With the U.S. being the world’s largest poultry producer and the second largest poultry meat exporter, the demand for global education and training for professionals from other countries, who are major U.S. commodity buyers, has exponentially grown. This was evident for participants who attended the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC) Japan Poultry Nutrition course held May 7–11, 2018 at the IGP Institute Conference Center.
The training hosted eight participants from Japan who work in a wide range of positions within the poultry industry including for technical magazine editor, poultry feed research and broiler farm management.
“I really enjoyed learning about the poultry nutrition in the course,” says Toshiyuki Ishii, poultry feed researcher at Nihon Nosan Kogyo in Japan. “All of the information taught, will help me in my research and learning the poultry nutrition formulas was very interesting.”
The topics covered in this training included broiler breeder nutrition and management; ideal amino acid profile and requirements for broilers and layers; maximizing the use of energy in poultry diets using basic concepts in nutrition and management; digestive tract structure integrity and efficiency; soybean production in the U.S.; feeding laying hens under heat stress and stressful conditions; quality control in a feed mill; feeding and managing broiler breeders to help solve problems;
Along with lectures and presentations, course participants also toured KSU’s O.H. Kruse Feed Technology Center in Manhattan, Kansas; DeLong Container Facility in Edgerton, Kansas; Bob Haselwood’s soybean farm in Berryton, Kansas; poultry farm near Syracuse, Kansas; Ag Co-Op Services Feed Mill near Otterville, Missouri; and Kansas Soybean Commission in Topeka, Kansas.
“USSEC has consistently supported the Japanese poultry industry by providing in partnership with the IGP Institute technical training, focusing on nutrition and feed manufacturing. It is important to support this type of market,” says Carlos Campabadal, feed manufacturing specialist and course coordinator.
This is just one example of the specialized trainings offered by the IGP Institute.
