Chiefs player shoots girlfriend, then himself

Kansas City police are investigating two related shootings this morning that involve a Chiefs player.

The Kansas City Star says Police indicated a Chiefs player shot and killed his girlfriend and then shot and killed himself at the team's practice facility near Arrowhead Stadium. Reports indicate the player is linebacker Jovan Belcher. He has been with the Chiefs since 2009 and attended Maine University.

The first shooting was reported about 8 a.m. at a home near 54th Street and Chrysler Avenue. The second shooting was reported a short time later at the practice facility, where police say the 25-year-old player was met by coaches in the parking lot and then took his own life.

The Chiefs released a statement that read: "We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning. We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."
