Girls basketball season ends for Scottsbluff
A 55-to-26 rebounding advantage for Alliance helped the Bulldogs get by Scottsbluff 57-40 in the first round of the B6 District Girls Basketball Tournament Tuesday night at Cougar Palace.
Numerous second chance shots helped the fourth seeded Bulldogs jump out to a 13-to-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. Alliance out rebounded the Bearcats by 10 and held Scottsbluff to one first quarter field goal by junior Toni Rosado.
Scottsbluff heated up in the second quarter, outscoring Alliance 16-to-12 to get to within five at intermission, 25-20. But midway through the third quarter Alliance, thanks to strong board work opened up the lead again. The Bulldogs took a 41-to-29 lead into the final quarter.
Junior Kiley Guerue tried to keep the Cats close. She had a game high 15 points, along with a team high nine rebounds, and was named the KNEB Taco John's Player-of-the-Game.
Morgan Anthony paced Alliance with 15 points including three three pointers.
Scottsbluff ends its season at 2-21. Alliance evened its record at 11-11 and will tangle with top seeded McCook Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. That game will be followed by third seeded Gering playing number two Sidney at 7:30 p.m. You can hear that game on KNEB-AM and kneb.com.
