Bulldogs top Bearcats 53-42

Gering opened its game with visiting Scottsbluff on a 14-2 run Tuesday night and never trailed against the Bearcats in a 53-42 win.

Adam Freeburg's crew used great balance in overcoming a stellar performance by junior Toni Rosado of the Bearcats, who scored 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, nearly single handedly keeping the Cats in the game.

Gering countered with a nine-player scoring attack, led by sophomore Jessica Rogers who scored 10 points and had 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs. Santana Mitchell added an eight point second half and Megan Upp contributed seven points for the Bulldogs.

Scottsbluff closed to within 16-9 at the end of the first quarter. Gering had the lead at halftime 22-15. After a low scoring second quarter, both teams exploded for 15 third quarter points to keep it tight going into the fourth quarter.

Scottsbluff closed to within three points but could get no closer before the Bulldogs opened up the contest at the end.

Rogers and Rosado earned KNEB Taco John's Player-of-the-Game honors for their respective teams.

With the win Gering moved to 7-6 on the season, which includes two wins over Scottsbluff which dropped to 1-9. Both teams are getting ready for Cheyenne teams next. Gering will play at 10-1 Cheyenne East Thursday. East will play at Scottsbluff Saturday after the Cats visit Cheyenne Central on Friday.
