Big first inning lifts Cats past Alliance

The Scottsbluff Bearcats softball team left no doubt about the outcome of Tuesday's game in Alliance. They sent 13 batters to the plate in the first inning while scoring 10 runs en route to a 14-2 three inning win.

Four different players produced run-scoring singles in the first inning for Scottsbluff, then came the big blow. Junior Barbara Calvert slammed a two-out grand slam home run that capped the outburst.

Calvert had a big day at the plate for the Cats going 2-for-2 with three runs scored and five rbi.

Mikayla Fulk was the winning pitcher for Scottsbluff, which moved to 2-10 on the year. Alliance dropped to 0-9.

Both teams will be in Scottsbluff Friday and Saturday for the Bearcat Invitational that will also include Gering, Chadron, Chase County and Gothenburg.
