Bluffs approval of Inter-Local key for smaller communities
The Scottsbluff city council's 4-1 vote to approve an Inter-Local agreement on funding of new equipment for the Scotts Bluff County Communications Center will likely lead to the other communities involved signing the agreement before the October 1st deadline.
The agreement includes a stipulation that if councils don't approve the agreement by the deadline, the county will no longer provide dispatch service to those cities or villages.
Even though Gering council member Jill McFarland says she's not giving up her fight on changing the funding formula, she admits the Scottsbluff council's action Monday night now makes it difficult to make 11th hour changes because they are the "lead" municipality.
Scottsbluff councilman Scott Shaver cast the lone no vote, telling KNEB News McFarland's double taxation argument and alternative funding formula was "compelling".
But Scottsbluff Mayor Randy Meininger says the county gave cities notice two years ago they would eventually need help paying for the new equipment. He says adding an advisory board comprised of representatives of all the communities involved will help decide future funding requirements after this year.
