Kearney captures GNAC Wrestling Tournament

Four champions and three runners-up weren't quite enough for host Scottsbluff as the Bearcats settled for second at the Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference wrestling tournament at SHS Saturday.

Another Bearcat team captured the title. Kearney outdistanced Scottsbluff 212.5-to-199.

Norfolk edged Lexington 155-to-154 for third place. Hastings finished fifth with 135.5 points. The Tigers were just ahead of North Platte, who finished sixth with 133 points. Columbus with 110.5 and McCook with 18 points rounded out the field.

Scottsbluff got championship efforts from Keegan Hessler at 113, Joseph Flores-Ybarra at 120, Colton Adams at 132 and Sabian Harsh at 145.

Hessler topped once beaten Isaac Stansbury of Kearney 5-to-4 in the finals. Hessler is now 45-3 on the season.

Flores-Ybarra outscored his three opponents during the tournament 21-5. That included a 3-to-1 win over Scott Bauer of Kearney in the finals.

Two time state champion Colton Adams continued his great season. He is now 47-1 on the year after winning an 11-to-3 major decision over Austin Marshall of Kearney in the finals. He had two pins along the way.

Harsh had two pins to move into the finals, then earned a 10-to-4 win over Parker Ridgeway of Columbus.

Scottsbluff also had three second place finishes Saturday. Juan Delacruz fell in the finals of 106 to unbeaten Nolan Laux of Hastings. Laux recorded a pin at the 4:00 mark.

Kalen Mazankowski of Kearney earned the title at 152 with a late pin over Tristan Donelson of Scottsbluff. Donelson, himself, registered two pins to get into the finals.

The third Bearcat to earn a second place finish was 285-pounder Andrew Aratani. He was edged 3-to-2 in the championship match by Christian Hernandez DeHor of Norfolk.
