Veterans Day parade shaping up to be one of biggest ever

The annual Veterans Day parade in Scottsbluff is shaping up to be on of the biggest yet. It will start at 11:00 Saturday morning with a C-130 flyover from F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne. A color guard from the base will lead the parade, and Warren Air Force Base will also have at least four vehicles in the parade.

Scotts Bluff County Veterans Service Director John Brehm says at least four High School bands will be participating, along with various organizations and Veterans. Any person or organization who would like to participate should meet at 19th Avenue, just south of East Overland by 10:30 to get lined up in the parade.

The parade will start at 19th Avenue and proceed west on East Overland to 3rd Avenue.

In addition to the parade, there will be a noon luncheon at VFW Post 1681 on the Scottsbluff-Gering Highway for participants.

There will also be a dedication for the Veterans Memorial at Eastlawn Cemetery east of Scottsbluff on Highland Road going on at 2 p.m. Saturday and a banquet at VFW Post 1681 at 6:30 Saturday evening. Then on Sunday, a Veterans Day program will be held at Western Nebraska State Veterans Home at 1:30 p.m.
