Scottsbluff wins Class B State Golf title
For the second time in four years Scottsbluff reigns as the Class B Boys State Golf champion.
The Bearcats extended a six stroke over Blair lead entering Wednesday's action at the Jackrabbit Golf Course in Grand Island to a nine stroke win over the second place Bears.
Senior Michael Hadden survived four straight bogeys on holes 9-through-12 to shoot a second round 73. His one-over par total for the day was the best score by anyone on day two, and paired with his Tuesday best round of 75, gave him meet medalist honors by three strokes over Brian Carmody of Omaha Skutt Catholic.
Hadden recovered from his string of bogeys to finish with three birdies in the final six holes, including one on the par five 18th.
Teammate Andrew Holloway, who was the state meet medalist as a freshman when the Cats last won the tournament, fired a 74 Wednesday and finished with a two-day total of 152 and wound up third.
Other Bearcat totals included Koy Potthoff with a 167 following an 83 Wednesday. Jonah Wright had a 170 following an 84 on day two of the tourney and Curtis Welsh finished with a 173 following a 90.
There were two other golfers from the area in the Class B field. Tyler Barton of Sidney finished with a 259 following a day two 81, and Nick Maser of Alliance shot a 169 following an 87 Wednesday.
Omaha Creighton Prep won the Class A title at Pioneers Golf Course in Lincoln. In Class C at the Highlands in Lincoln, Gibbon won the title. Bayard's Trae Blanco finished 18th individually with a two-day total of 163. Right behind in 21st with a 165 was Kimball's Henry Heeg.
The Class D titlist at the Meadowlark Hills Course in Kearney was Thayer Central. A number of area golfers competed individually including Colton Micheel of Crawford. He had a 182, one stroke better than Regg Strotheide of Hay Springs. Lane Godfrey of Creek Valley finished with a 191, one stroke ahead of Kyle Gorsuch of Potter-Dix.
