29th Thanksgiving In The Valley Dinner being prepared
Preparations are underway at the Scottsbluff Elks Club for this year's KNEB Thanksgiving in the Valley community dinner, to be held once again at the Guadalupe Center on Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m to 1 p.m.
Head cook Randy Thruston has been involved in all but two of the twenty nine dinners, and says a lot of work is ahead of him and his five volunteer cooks. Thruston says the cooks will be cooking the nearly two dozen turkeys, making the potatoes, stuffing and gravy, and preparing the special cranberry jello that has been a big hit every year.
Thruston says many of the cooks have been with him for some time, including Diane Marcin, who has been with him for 17 years. Thruston says it's tradition, a lot of fun, and a time when the cooks catch up on what has happened in their lives over the past year.
Approximately 600 people, split virtually almost evenly between the people eating at the Guadalupe center and those who will receive meals in their homes from a program organized by the Sco0ttsbluff Volunteer Center, will be fed this Thanksgiving Day.
