Wiebe qualifies twice
After coming up empty in the morning girls session the Scottbluff/Gering Seacats qualified for the finals in two boys events at the State Swimming and Diving Championships in Lincoln Friday afternoon.
Senior Jonathan Wiebe saved the day for the Seacats qualifying in both the 50 and 100 Freestyles.
Wiebe's time of 22.03 in the 50 was the 4th fastest of the day. Meanwhile, his time of 48.48 in the 100 qualified him third for Saturday's finals.
Wiebe also swam on two Seacat relays, the 200 Medley and the 200 Free. Neither were able to qualify for Saturday action. The latter relay, which also consisted of Zachariah Puckett, Nicholas Childs and Daniel Schaub, was disqualified.
Wiebe, Childs and Schaub were joined by Spencer Lake on the 200 Medley Relay team.
Schaub, Puckett, James Maag and Baylen Smith were members of the Seacats 400 Free Relay that failed to move on to Saturday action.
Earlier in the day the girls failed to move anyone into finals competition Saturday.
There is an earlier story posted on the sports page at kneb.com that runs down the morning results.
