CSC volleyball team gets five set win

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Chadron State College volleyball team's offense stole the show in the Eagles' 25-20, 23-25, 25-19, 21-25, 15-13 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory Friday against the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs at the Gallogly Events Center.

In a three-set setback Tuesday at Black Hills, Chadron State's offense struggled, but that wasn't the case Friday as the Eagles, now 6-21 overall and 3-14 in the conference, hit .217 and connected on 63 kills.

Alia Brennan led the team with an impressive performance. The freshman from Chadron had 18 kills and hit a whopping .425.

Barbie DeCent added 17 kills and 18 digs and Jessica Jester had 14 kills five blocks.

Justine Ackie had 54 set assists while running the effective Chadron State offense. She also added nine digs and served an ace.

The Eagles' defense was also sharp. Alyssa Bauer had a match-high 28 digs and the team combined for 13 blocks.

Other than the third set, in which the Eagles cruised while hitting .429, the two teams combined to tie things up 28 times and the lead was changed 10 times.

In the final set neither team led by more than three points but the Eagles pulled away down the stretch when they received three straight kills from Brennan, DeCent and Erika Roybal. Following a service error, Brennan wrapped things up with her final kill.

Chadron State will play its final two matches of the season next weekend in Denver against Metro State and Regis.
