Lincoln may be first Nebraska LEED gold elementary school

Gering schools Superintendent Don Hague says they will find out later this fall whether Lincoln elementary will be the first LEED gold certified elementary school in the state.

Hague says the architects involved with the new school are working on the paperwork to get the certification regarding energy and environmental excellence. Hague says the new school is one of the district's proudest achievements.

Hague says lost in the Lincoln project is the fact the district has just completed a million dollar project to replace windows and doors at the high school.

Gering opens the new school year Tuesday when high school students and seventh and 9th graders attend their first day of classes. Elementary and 8th graders begin Wednesday.
