Burglary suspects in Court Thursday
One of three teenagers charged with a residential Gering burglary in January has entered a no contest plea in Scotts Bluff County District Court. 18 year old Shane Merrills was charged with burglary along with 18 year old Robbie Strauss and 19 year old Byron Stieb.
Police say the three burglars broke into a home at 1180 17th Street in Gering through a basement window and once inside, ransacked the property. Holes were reportedly drilled in the drywall, beds were overturned and figurines and lamps were broken or damaged. Police also say a variety of property was taken, but nearly all of it was recovered after the arrests.
Merrills will be sentenced on the burglary charge May 13th at 2:30 p.m. Meanwhile, Byron Stieb waived his right to a jury trial and will face a bench trial before District Judge Leo Dobrovolny during the April trial term.
