Saturday effort to help local food pantries

This is National Hunger and Homeless week and the Panhandle Continuum of Care for Housing and Homelessness is coordinating a food-raising event.

Nebraska Transport and Wal-Mart will join local volunteers in collecting non-perishable food items for area food banks this Saturday. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., you can drop off your non-perishable food donations at the Nebraska Transport Company truck in the Wal-Mart parking lot.

Over 1,018 individuals were served through the CAPWN pantry in the last year, 393 of those people were children. Other pantries that are being served by Saturday's effort are Potters Wheel, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and Cirrus House.
