Helton set to retire

PHOENIX (AP) _ Colorado Rockies first baseman Todd Helton will retire at the end of the season, ending a 17-year-career in which he set franchise records in nearly every offensive category.

The 40-year-old Helton is a lifetime .317 hitter with 367 homers, 586 doubles and 1,397 RBIs since making his major league debut with the 1997 Rockies.

This season Helton is hitting just .244 with 13 homers and 52
RBIs in 112 games.
