Class B & C first round completed
Chadron and Scottsbluff had the most success of Class B wrestling teams from the area during the first round of the state championships at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha Thursday afternoon.
Both teams had seven wrestlers compete. Both had five first round winners.
Scottsbluff started with four straight wins from Juan Delacruz at 106, Keggan Hessler at 113, Joseph Flores-Ybarra at 120 and two-time defending state champ Colton Adams at 132 before suffering two losses.
District 145 champ Sabian Harsh lost a 9-3 decision. Then Tristan Donelson lost by a pin in :39 at 152. 285-pounder Andrew Aratani closed out Scottsbluff's opening round with a 2-0 win
The Cats ended the first round with 15 points, good for a 6th place tie with Syracuse.
Chadron scored three more points and sits in second place behind Omaha Skutt, who scored 30 points.
The Cardinals got first round wins from Daniel Goings, Tate Cullers, Colby Reisen, Chance Bila and Cooper Gogdill. Trace Strotheide and Willy Gogdill were the Chadron wrestlers that lost first round matches.
Alliance went 4-4 in the first round. Devin Ushio, Walker Johnson, Tyson Dowler and Dawson Johnson recorded the wins. With his win Dowler moved to 25-0 on the year.
Gering struggled in round one. Baily Hort opened the day with a major decision win at 113. Then Jacob Rexus at 160 and Elijah Timblin at 170 lost by pins. Christian Pester wrapped up the Bulldogs opening round with a 12-3 loss at 195.
Also in Class B Sidney had one win in three first round tries. At 132 Michael Muggli won a major decision, 11-2. Tanner Wintholz lost 4-1 at 195 and Scott Kelsey was pinned at the 4:48 mark in his 220 pound match.
Mitchell won three of five first round Class C matches. Drew Gilliland won by pin in :53 at 106. Teammates Brendan Swanson at 170 and Braydon Wiedeman at 182 won by pins.
Josh Zulkoski lost 17-1 at 120 and Spencer Rien lost by a pin at 220.
Bridgeport got a pin from Brandon Nichols at 138. Dakota Swires lost an 8-6 decision at 126.
Gordon/Rushville opened the day with a win from Garrett Shadbolt at 113, but Casey Glassgow at 138 and Ken Graham at 170 dropped matches.
