BMS Band Director honored
Michael Koch, director of BMS Bands, was recently honored by the Nebraska Music Educators Association with a "Career Teacher" award for his 25 year commitment to music education in Nebraska. The award was presented to Mr. Koch at the annual NMEA Awards and Recognition Banquet in Lincoln on November 15th.
Mr. Koch is currently in his fifteenth year as Director of Bands at Bluffs Middle School in Scottsbluff, and taught in Bridgeport for the six years prior to coming to Scottsbluff, and was also a teacher in Shickley and Milford.
In addition to his duties at the Middle School, Koch directs the 5th Grade Beginning Band program and assists with the Scottsbluff Senior High School Bands.
Bluffs Middle School 8th Grade Bands, under the direction of Mr. Koch, have been selected to perform as
the guest band for the 2000 Nebraska State Bandmasters Association Convention and the 2002 Nebraska Music Educators Association Convention. They have also received Superior Ratings and Best Overall Jr. High/Middle School Band Awards at the "Music In The Parks" Festival of Music in Denver, Colorado.
Koch is a past Board Member of the Nebraska Music Educators Association (Middle Level Affairs - 2007 & 2008), he is a staff member for the Nebraska Ambassadors of Music (2003 to the present), and a member of Phi Beta Mu International School Bandmaster Fraternity.
