Cats add to their lead; Franklin completes distance double

Scottsbluff extended its lead over McCook in the Class B boys team standings at the State Track and Field Championships at Omaha Burke Stadium with some points in the 1600.

They got four points from Matthew Barraza, who finished fifth in the event. That put the Bearcats up 54-43 over the Bison, but coach Jim Barker probably was hoping for more.

The Cats had three runners in the 1600. Justin Pritchard settled for 10th and Brendan Taedter was 17th.

Ogallala's James McKeag completed a distance double by breaking the tape in the 1600 today and winning the 3200 Friday.

Two other area runners were in the boys Class B 1600. Levi Avila of Mitchell finished 15th and Sam Arterburn of Sidney was 22nd.

Speaking of distance doubles, Cody Franklin of Bridgeport also completed the sweep. He won the Class C 1600 by four seconds over his closest pursuer. His time was 4:30.95.

Summer Mueller of Creek Valley finished 6th in the girls Class D 1600. Taylor Muncie of Scottsbluff was 7th in the girls Class B 1600 and Jake Johnson of Potter-Dix placed 7th in the boys Class D 1600. Minatare's Steven Juarez settled for 17th.
