Documentary addresses impact of marijuana legalization on Nebraska
A documentary that will air beginning Friday evening and again over the next couple weeks on NET1 confirms that as more states including Colorado legalize marijuana it is having an impact on the amount of marijuana coming into Nebraska.
Producer Bill Kelly told KNEB News his research show more routine traffic stops along I-80 are turning into drug busts. Kelly says statistics indicate arrests have increased five-fold in the area where the two interstates intersect near Big Springs.
Kelly says statistics also indicate that the big increase in arrests does not involve possession but distribution of marijuana, which means the major busts regard people that are moving drugs through the state and not necessarily into the state.
Kelly conducted interviews with people who grow and dispense marijuana, those who use the drug for medical purposes, and with Colorado officials who have built a system of regulation for marijuana and are tasked with keeping track of the drug.
The documentary will air this Friday at 6 p.m. on NET1, and repeat Monday night and again the evening of December 13th.
