Bluffs man charged with threantening to shoot girlfriend

A Scottsbluff man accused of threatening to shoot his girlfriend during a domestic dispute late Friday night had a first appearance in Scotts Bluff County Court Monday. 48 year old John Tharp is facing charges including terroristic threats, use of a weapon to commit a felony and domestic assault.

Court documents indicate the victim called Police after she said Tharp had assaulted her and threatened to kill her as he put a gun to her head while she was leaving her home. The dispute began after Tharp said he thought the victim would cheat on him while he was gone to visit his son in Rhode Island. The victim said Tharp choked her and threatened to shoot her when he jumped into her car while she was attempting to leave the home.

Police recovered two guns from the home including the black powder handgun allegedly used in the assault.

A preliminary hearing will be held on April 29th at 11:30 a.m. Bond was set at $600,000 with a 10% cash provision.
