RDC raccoon to make prediction on bowl game

The Nebraska Cornhuskers are playing in the Gator Bowl on New Year's Day. Who will win the big game?

Riverside Discovery Center will host a special prediction of the outcome of the Nebraska – Georgia game the day prior to the game. The RDC raccoon will make his prediction on Tuesday, December 31, at 11:02 a.m.

He will be given two football piñatas: one for the Nebraska Huskers and the second for the Georgia Bulldogs. Whichever piñata he goes to first is his prediction of who will win the big game. Everyone is encouraged to come to the RDC to root for their favorite team and witness the prediction powers of the raccoon.

"Every day the zoo animals are given enrichment through objects, food and smells - something that encourages the animals' natural behavior", says Kim Miedema, Riverside Discovery Center Education Curator. "We thought that this would be a great way to combine some fun for sports enthusiasts and give one of our animals their enrichment. Raccoons are very inquisitive animals, so it should be interesting to see how he reacts with the piñatas."

The zoo encourages spectators to show support for your team. Any person wearing Nebraska sports gear Tuesday, arriving before the event, will be given $1/ off their RDC admission price.

See you at the raccoon exhibit located just before the bridge at 11:02 on Tuesday, December 31, to cheer for your team and see who our raccoon will pick to be the winner! Riverside Discovery Center zoo is open 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., weather permitting during the winter and closed New Year's Day.
