Community Christian School Board apologizes for poor communication
At a corporate meeting Monday night, members of the Community Christian School Board apologized for the way they handled the non-renewal of the contract of Principal Chris Geary.
Geary was informed by the board that they had unanimously voted not to renew his contract last Monday, and was being placed on a mandatory leave of absence.
Speaking in front of a crowd of over 125 people, Board Member Gil Watkins read a letter on behalf of the board saying in part: "We would like to express our apologies for how the information was shared with both teachers and community. Believing that we were handling the information in the best way possible, we understand in retrospect that we did not handle the communication well, and for that we are deeply sorry."
After opening the floor to questions, many speakers chastised the board for the actions they had taken and questioned their decision to place Geary on a leave of absence now.
The board reiterated that the Geary was not fired and that any assumption that he did something major which resulted in the change was "not correct." They said that Dr. Griffiths will serve as interim principal for the remainder of the year.
Many in attendance felt that the board should issue a public apology to Geary, and the board agreed to do so. At one point, Board Secretary Kevin Woodward addressed the crowd saying that he wanted to personally apologize to members of Geary's family in attendance, and stated that the board would be issuing a public apology through the news media soon.
A search for Geary's replacement will begin next week.
