Volleyball game added to slate at Scottsbluff tonight

Before the Scottsbluff varsity volleyball team hits the floor tonight against visiting Alliance there will be two other teams added to the schedule.

Scottsbluff High School Activities Director Dave Pauli says The Nebraska School Activities Association has been making an effort to work in conjunction with Unified Sports.

"Scotts Bluff County has one of the most dedicated and advanced Unified Sports programs in the state," Pauli said. "Scottsbluff is excited to announce that we will host our first Unified Volleyball game between Scottsbluff Unified and Minatare Unified following the junior varsity contest."

NSAA Executive Director Rhonda Blanchford-Green has made cooperation with Special Olympics a top priority. "I had been working closely with Carolyn Chamberlin, CEO/President of Nebraska Special Olympics to review NSAA championships and how we could work together to showcase disabled students. We are both proponents of the Unified sport model, a competition platform that allows students with disabilities to compete in programs that were designed specifically to meet their needs and stand on their own merits. This has been the direction that most state Association's have adopted, to provide equitable opportunities without modifying the game or the educational message."

The approximate game schedule is 6:45 p.m.
