Car was on fire prior to striking Chugwater gas station
Chugwater fire Chief Tom Ash says the car that drove into the front of Horton's Corner store Sunday evening was apparently on fire before it crashed into the building.
The collision caused an explosion and fire that destroyed the building, the only gas station the community had and the only one between Wheatland and Chugwater. Highway signs are alerting drivers there is no fuel at the location.
Authorities say 42-year-old John Barberini of Casper drove into the front of Horton's Corner convenience store and gas station on Sunday evening. Two employees and a customer were inside but no one was injured.
Investigators are still trying to piece together what happened. Horton's owners promise to take care of their 14 employees until they decide whether to rebuild.
