Proposed closing of Hot Springs clinic expected to be priority issue for veterans
Third District Congressman Adrian Smith says he expects keeping Veterans Affairs medical facilities open in Hot Springs will be the priority issue when he holds an open house for veterans Friday at his Scottsbluff office.
Veterans in western Nebraska have opposed a proposed restructuring of medical facilities in western South Dakota that would result in the closing of the popular Hot Springs clinic. Smith says it would also mean additional transportation costs for many veterans in our region.
Veterans told VA Secretary Eric Shinseki during their last visit to Washington that the Hot Springs clinic provides the "highest quality health-care." Shinseki says he has appreciated the input and indicated he would make a decision "sooner than later".
The open house Friday in Smith's office is from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
