Schlothauer named new VALTS Principal

The Valley Alternative Learning Transitioning School, or VALTS, will have a new Principal next year. George Schlothauer, the current Principal at Lincoln Elementary in Gering has been named for the job. Schlothauer will replace Dr. Kent Mclellan, who is retiring.

Dr. Jeff West from ESU #13 headed up the search and says they received 13 total applications for the job. Five finalists were then interviewed for the position.

West had a team of people both internally from ESU #13 that will work with the principal, and member district representatives that were involved in the selection process. He says after completing the five interviews, a concensus was reached that Schlothauer was the right person for the job.

Dr. West says Schlothauer has both administrative experience as a Principal and also has experience teaching in an alternative setting, two qualities the search committee was looking for. Schlothauer will start in the position at the beginning of next school year.
