Mari Sandoz Heritage Society conference continues in Chadron
The annual conference of the Mari Sandoz Heritage Society continues today (Friday) at Chadron State College after opening with the fourth annual Pilster Great Plains Lecture Series Thursday evening. It featured Dr. Dan Louie Flores, an award-winning author and historian who's talk "Empires of the Sun: Big History and the High Plains" received high praise.
The academic sessions of the Sandoz conference are going on today in the Sandoz Center starting at 9:00. Society spokesman J-L Schmidt is excited about this year's lineup. He says it will be very "environmentally" themed and will center on Sandoz' works in general, and how they address issues ranging from Women and Drought all the way to a really great session on Raising the Water Table.
Topics for other breakout sessions today will include Indigenous Approaches to Drought and the Environment, and Ranching and Forestry on the Plains.
