Another good round for Scottsbluff

The first round of wrestle-backs for Classes B and C are done in a busy day at the State Wrestling Tournament at the Century Link Center in Omaha.

Before we get to those results, we have one correction from Class D. Tristan Hunter defeated Shane Willats of Clearwater-Orchard, 8-2, at 170, and will wrestle Austin Roach of Laurel-Concord tonight.

For Scottsbluff, Sabian Harsh picked up a pin over Jake Corbin of Fairbury in 59 seconds at 145. Tristan Donelson pinned Wade Maddox of Falls City in 1:59 at 152. Harsh will wrestle TJ Steffes of Elkhorn and Donelson will wrestle John Essink of Syracuse in this afternoon's second round consolation. Scottsbluff also have five wrestlers in tonight's semifinals.

Gering lost two wrestlers in this round, and advanced one. Elijah Timblin pinned Conner Munger of Adams Central in 56 seconds and will wrestle Philip Rasmussen of Omaha Skutt Catholic in the next round. Both Jacob Rexus and Christian Pester lost decisions in their first round today. Baily Hort will also wrestle in the next round with a match with Mike Nyugen of Lexington at 113.

For Alliance, Tyler Smith was a 4-2 winner over Joseph Hayek of Seward at 138 and will battle Nick Hines of Omaha Skutt Catholic in the next round. Kyson Schnell was also a winner at 195, pinning Trevor Jarosz of Columbus Lakeview in 4:45.

Manny Cabello lost at 145, and Fernado Lopez lost at 182.

Chadron's Willy Cogdill was their only wrestler in the round, and he won a 7-3 decision over Ethan Adams of Beatrice. He and teammate Cooper Cogdill will wrestle in the second round of consolations this afternoon.

And, Sidney, advanced one and lost one in the first round today, as Tanner Wintholz was a winner by pin over Tyler Brabec of Schulyer in 3:25 at 195. Scott Kelsey was pinned at 220. Michael Muggli will also be in the second round of consolations at 132.

Scottsbluff is now in second place, trailing Omaha Skutt Catholic by a point and a half after the round. They are a point and a half ahead of Plattsmouth.
