State Senator John Harms of Scottsbluff closed out eight years of service in the Nebraska Legislature with emotional remarks to his colleagues Thursday.

Harms thanked his fellow lawmakers for their friendship and his staff for their hard work. And then he took a few moments to address the support and flexibility of his wife Pat during the past eight years.

Harms is one of 17 lawmakers who are leaving the legislature. Harms was also praised by Governor Dave Heineman, who told KNEB News Harms was more than just one of the members, he was a leader.
