Winter Storm possible this weekend - after the Farm and Ranch Expo
A strong winter storm system is forcast to bring widespread snowfall to the area this weekend.
Meteorologist Don Day with Day Weather says that the storm system will get better organized after it moves across the Rockies, but that all the ingredients will be present for widespread snowfall. While Day is confident it will be colder and will snow over the weekend, determining the location of the heaviest snow will be more difficult. The location of the heaviest snow band will be narrow, and locations in the band could experience blizzard conditions.
At this time, the National Weather Service is forecasting 5 to 10 inches of snow from Scottsbluff and Kimball to Sidney, along with 40 to 50 mph winds.
While Day says that the storm track may change, he is confident that the weather for this weekend's KNEB Farm and Ranch Expo will be great, as Friday will be mild, and any precipitation will hold off until after Saturday afternoon.
And even better news, Day says that this may trigger a larger change in the long-range weather, as multiple systems could impact our area through mid March, possibly bringing much-needed moisture to the area.
