Retired Judge Brian Silverman being remembered
KNEB has learned of the passing of longtime Twelfth Judicial District Court Judge Brian Silverman. Silverman died Saturday after suffering a recent heart attack.
Services will be held Friday, August 23, at 10 a.m., at the Scotts Bluff County Events Center in Mitchell.
Silverman was appointed in 1992 by then-Governor Ben Nelson. He was sworn in on December 16, 1992, and served 19 years on the bench, primarily in Alliance, but also in Dawes, Sioux, Sheridan and Grant Counties.
Prior to serving as a judge, Silverman was the Scotts Bluff County Attorney for 19 years. He graduated from the University of Nebraska Law College in 1972.
Silverman was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2008. He beat cancer and retired on December 31, 2010, so he could spend more time with his grandchildren.
