Truck driver charged in I-80 fatal enters not guilty pleas

A 36 year old Illinois truck driver charged with nine felonies in a deadly crash on I-80 near Potter last September had not guilty pleas entered for him by the court after he stood mute Thursday during his arraignment in Cheyenne County District Court. Josef Slezak's next court hearing is April 3rd.

Slezak is charged with four counts of felony manslaughter and five counts of motor vehicle homicide after he allegedly fell asleep at the wheel of his semi in the early morning hours of September 9. A family of four moving from Maryland to California, including the pregnant mother, were killed when the semi slammed into stopped traffic because of a previous crash.

Prosecutors believe Slezak traveled virtually straight through from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Cheyenne County prior to the accident.
