Alliance family claims United Way top prize
A rural Alliance 8th grader's parents Monday officially claimed a new Camaro donated by Team Chevrolet and Target as the top prize in the United Way of Western Nebraska's 16th annual Duck Dash. While Jennifer and Ray Krause were present Monday, their son 13 year old Jacob Krause was the star of the show. It was Jacob's duck that crossed the finish line first Saturday.
Asked about whether he will drive the car when he turns of age, Jacob Krause said he might get to drive it next year if he gets a school permit to drive from his home 30 minutes outside of Alliance to high school. He also said his older brother in college might get an opportunity to use it, but at a cost.
The rural Alliance family has had a tough year. Their house was saved but much of their property was burned by fire earlier this year.
The local United Way sold 20,000 ducks for the first time, and Special Events Chair Jeana Allen believes after expenses they made a record $90,000 for this year's campaign.
