Former OTD General Chairman resigns from board

Former Oregon Trail Days Chairman Chuck Cowan has resigned from the Oregon Trail Days Board. Chuck Cowan says there is "too much contention" and claims the Board is going in "a different direction" than he would like the celebration to go.

Cowan says he would like to grow Oregon Trail Days and supports current chairman Bill Schlaepfer, including his move of the carnival and the chili cook-off to the Five Rocks Amphitheater. He also supports adding mud volleyball.

Cowan admits moving the concert to the Saturday before the celebration is "probably not what I would have done." For the first time, the concert this year will lead the celebration rather than anchor it. Cowan adds, however, that the concert attendance has been down and "you have to do something." But he also says he is not sure putting it on the weekend after the fourth of July is the best move.
