25 area wrestlers guaranteed medals in Omaha

The State Wrestling championships at the Century Link Center in Omaha enter the final day this morning, with wrestlers still competing guaranteeing themselves a medal.

In Class B, Scottsbluff sits in second place, 22-and-a-half points behind Omaha Skutt Catholic entering the final rounds of the meet. Scottsbluff will send three wrestlers into this afternoon's championship, and another three wrestlers into the consolation semifinals, guaranteeing a medal for them.

The gold medal matches for the Bearcats include Juan Delacruz taking on Brian Peska of Omaha Skutt Catholic at 106, Keegan Hessler battling JT Sloboth of Omaha Skutt Catholic at 113, and 52-1 Colton Adams wrestling Clay Trejo of Cozad at 132. Championship matches begin at 2 p.m. Mountain Time this afternoon.

Advancing in the consolation side of the bracket, Joesph Flores-Ybarra at 120, Sabian Harsh at 145, and Andrew Aratani at 285. Those wrestlers will go in the consolation semifinals at 8:30 a.m. Mountain Time this morning, with the winners to wrestle again for third plane, and the losers to wrestle for fifth place.

Gering has just one wrestler remaining, as Baily Hort at 113 pounds will be in this morning's consolation bracket.

Alliance has one wrestler in the gold medal match, as Tyson Dowler will take on Logan Hunke of Cozad at 152. Alliance has four wrestlers in the consolation semifinals, Devon Ushio at 120, Walker Johnson at 126, Tyler Smith at 138, and Dawson Johnson at 160.

Chadron also has one in the championship bout, Colby Riesen at 160, will wrestle Nick Null of Plattsmouth. The Cardinals have two others in the consolation bracket: Willy Cogdill at 152 and Chance Bila at 170.

Sidney has one wrestler remaining, as Tanner Wintholz will wrestle in the consolations today at 195 pounds.

Alliance sits in 8th place in team standings, while Chadron is in tenth.

In Class C, Mitchell has three wrestlers remaining in the consolation bracket, including Drew Gilliland at 106, Brendan Swanson at 170, and Braydon Wiedeman at 182.

Bridgeport's lone wrestler, Brandon Nichols, will wrestle in the consolations at 138 pounds.

In Class D, Bayard's Tanner Willey is the only wrestler remaining, and will go in the consolations at 195 pounds.

Banner County's lone wrestler is David Gifford in the consolations at 220 pounds.

Morrill's CJ Sidrow is wrestling in the consolations at 106 pounds.

Hay Springs has two wrestlers in the consolation bracket: Joey Johnson at 132, and Stevin Horrocks at 220.
