Geurts requests charges be dismissed

The mother of a two year old Gering girl indicted earlier this month in the toddler's death is asking that charges against her be dismissed.

Bell Island, the attorney for 25 year old Charyse Geurts, has submitted a motion to quash, claiming the charging document is in error.

Geurts is charged with being an accessory in the murder of Juliette Geurts and providing false information to Police. Geurts turned herself in to Police last week and posted a $5,000 cash bond. She then appeared at a Friday hearing and entered a not guilty plea. No additional hearings requiring Geurts to attend are scheduled at this time.

26 year old Dustin Chauncey, Geurts' boyfriend at the time, is charged with child abuse resulting in death and involuntary manslaughter. Chauncey was recently sentenced in Colorado to four years in prison on unrelated firearm and drug charges and authorities are working through the necessary interstate compact requirements to bring Chauncey back to face the charges.
