Mitchell woman charged with smuggling meth into jail
A Mitchell woman is facing drug charges after she forgot she was in possession of methamphetamine a friend had given her just prior to her sentencing hearing. 31 year old Elizabeth Mauer was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and smuggling contraband into jail.
The court document says Mauer told the Scotts Bluff County Correction officer transporting her from court to jail that the friend gave her the drugs as a gift for testifying for him at his last court appearance. The corrections officer found the drugs during a strip search. Mauer said she planned to flush the drugs, but forgot.
Mauer was sentenced Thursday to 90 days in jail for theft, and looks like she may be looking at additional time
