Cougar women get second win

COLBY, Kan. -- The Western Nebraska Community College women's basketball team rebounded from Friday's loss with a 66-59 win over Phoenix College in the final day of the Colby Classic on Saturday.

The Cougars put three players in double figures in picking up their second win of the season.

Lile Havili had a double-double in the victory, pouring in 21 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Bridgeport's Ashley Stevens also had another good game, finishing with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Laurin Rivera continued her hot shooting from her guard position, netting 12 points. Abi Lujan finished with nine points on the day.

Even with the win, WNCC coach Dave Harnish said his team need to still get better offensively. The team committed over 20 turnovers and shot 40 percent from the free throw line (15 of 37). The Cougars were just 4 of 14 from the stripe in the second half.

WNCC (2-1) will return to action Wednesday when they host Central Wyoming College at 6 p.m. at Cougar Palace. They will then head to the Otero tournament next weekend for two games.
