Rapid City Stevens runs past the Scottsbuff girls

Rosado in action against Gering earlier in the season

The Scottsbluff Bearcats got off to a fast start Saturday afternoon against visiting Rapid City Stevens, but Stevens had an even faster response. After Mike Burda's crew jumped out to a 15-9 lead in the opening quarter, Stevens answered with a 15-to-0 run to grab the lead en route to an 81-54 win.

Senior Alexus Pinedo had a big nine point first quarter for Scottsbluff, including two-three pointers, but Stevens had an answer for that too. Her name was Gabby Haefs. She scored 14 first quarter points, which included four- three pointers. She finished the first half with 19-points and had a game high 25 points.

Stevens lead 24-to-17 after the first quarter. They extended the lead to 43-to-30 at halftime.

Haefs got first half help from Taylor Holestad who added 11 points, seven coming in the second quarter. She finished the game with 15. Shelby Shore took charge in the third quarter with nine points for the Raiders. She finished with 16points.

The Bearcats had some outstanding scoring efforts in the game as well. After her hot start Pinedo finished with 12 points. Junior Kiley Guerue, the KNEB Taco John's Player of the Game, added 14 points, 10 coming in the first half. Leading the way for the Cats was another junior, Toni Rosado. She scored 15 points, including a 7-of-8 free throw shooting performance. The 54 points for the Bearcats was the team's highest scoring output of the campaign.

Stevens moves to 5-8 on the year. Scottsbluff drops to 1-13. They will play at Torrington Tuesday night.
