Scottsbluff boys and girls win Gering Invitational
The Scottsbluff boys and girls cross country teams both ran to victories at the Gering Cross Country Invitational Friday.
Scottsbluff swept the top four spots in the boys division. Matthew Barraza captured the boys title at Monument Shadows Golf Course with a time of 16:46. Anthony Parra, Brendan Taedter and Shane Burkey competed the sweep for the Cats.
Scottsbluff topped Mitchell in the team race 10-to-47. Tate Harvey paced the Tigers with a sixth-place finish. Edward Grentz was eighth and Levi Avila ninth for the Tigers.
Host Gering finished third with a team total of 59. The Bulldogs' top placer was Steven Juarez in 12th.
The Scottsbluff girls were paced by medalist Taylor Muncie. She had nearly a one-minute advantage on second-place finisher Austin Asay of Pine Bluffs-Burns.
In the team chase Scottsbluff scored 36, 14 points better than runner-up Sidney. Ali Ehler paced the Red Raiders with a fourth place finish.
Pine Bluffs finished third in the standings, followed by Gering. Kali Rimington paced the Bulldogs with an eighth place finish. Rebekah Rawlings ended up 10th for Gering. Celeste Cardona of Mitchell was sixth.
