Kuckkahn to recommend nationwide Police Chief search
Scottsbluff City Manager Rick Kuckkahn says he will recommend to the city council that the city conduct a nationwide Police Chief search and forego any restructuring of public safety.
Kuckkahn has been considering having a Public Safety Director coordinate police fire, and emergency services since the resignation of Alex Moreno as Police Chief last summer. But he told KNEB News Tuesday upon further reflection after conducting research and discussions with those staff and those outside the city, the Public Safety Director idea lost its attractiveness.
Kuckkahn says while Captains Kevin Spencer and Brian Wasson have done a good job in taking turns as Acting Police Chief, he agreed with Civil Service Commission members it will be good to "explore all possibilities" with a nationwide search.
Kuckkahn says when the council gives their approval, the process to select a chief will start immediately.
