Communication Center to receive new radio console

The newly constructed Scotts Bluff County Communication Center will be getting a new radio & telephone main communications console system with approval by County Commissioners earlier this week for the expenditure of $258,584.

Communications Center Director Ray Richards says this was something they would be needing earlier than they anticipated. The console was originally in their 3 year plan. But, he says after the first of the year, they learned of "end of life" issues with the current console from Motorola, which caused them to move the timetable up.

The bid was awarded to 1st Wireless Incorporated, which is formerly Brust Communications in Gering. Richards said he felt it was important to do business with a local company, so that they would have local support if and when there is a problem with the equipment.

The new console will be built when ordered, and should arrive in 6 to 8 weeks.
