RDC summer season kicks off Saturday

Summer season is finally here and the Riverside Discovery Center will be hosting a grand Summer Season Kick-off Celebration for the public this Saturday May 25th with many special activities taking place. The event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Local venders will be selling their goods and various food vendors will be selling some great food, so come and join us for lunch and a day of entertainment!

It's Jack, the chimp's 48th birthday! The chimps will be having a birthday party for him at 10:00 a.m. This is a special invitation to the public to come help Jack celebrate his birthday with a mashed potato cake. "It should really be quite a treat to see Jack get his birthday cake," said Anne James, Executive Director. "People will want to arrive early, so they don't miss the happening."

In addition, some of the other animals will be receiving special enrichment items. Enrichment items are extra-ordinary things the animals forage for, which enriches their mental and physical well-being. Between 9:30 and 10 a.m. the primates will get a special treat, and at 12:30 the tigers will receive their enrichment. "These animal enrichment activities are not only enjoyable for the public but the animals' as well," said James.

"Many young water-loving youth have been inquiring about the splash pad this spring. This very popular activity center will be making its grand opening for the summer season on Saturday, so everyone should don their swim suit and join in the fun." The splash pad will be open daily, weather permitting throughout the summer.
