Thompson has record breaking day to lead the Bulldogs past the Bearcats

Gering senior Josie Thompson can be excused if she looks a little tired in school Wednesday. She was busy Tuesday night at Memorial Stadium in Gering scoring goals against rival Scottsbluff. She had a school record five of them in leading Gering to an 8-1 win.

Another Gering senior, Shayla Garetto, had held the record with four two years ago.

The fifth rated team in the state, according to the Omaha World-Herald, improved to 10-3 on the season. The Bulldogs are scheduled to close out their regular season at Sterling Thursday.

Scottsbluff dropped to 4-8. They will close out their regulars season with matches at North Platte Friday an at Sterling Saturday.

The B6 District Tournament opens Monday at Holdrege.

In boys play last night Gering picked-up their seventh win with a 2-1 win over Scottsbluff. The Bearcats had won the previous two meetings between the two schools by a combined score of 6-1.
