Scanlan cancels Las Vegas trip due to illness

Miss America 2011 was planning to be in Las Vegas this week to be a special correspondent at the Miss America pageant for the TMG Pageant Network, sign autographs and be part of the 2013 pageant festivities. But Teresa Scanlan of Gering says on her facebook page she had to cancel the plans after getting what's called Dengue Fever from mosquitoes while she was in Haiti over the holidays.

Scanlan says she has extreme pain all over her body, a terrible headache, and flu symptoms that have resulted in fatigue, a fever and a loss of appetite. The doctor she saw advised absolutely no traveling and they are doing more tests for malaria and other things. Scanlan says the doctor indicated it could take three to four weeks to get over the situation as long as she drinks lots of fluids and rests.

Scanlan says she is "devastated" she can't make it to the pageant, indicating she will be staying at her home in Virgina. Scanlan says her mother had already flown in and will be in Vegas for the week. Scanlan asked everyone to pray for her successful recovery.
