Pioneer Hall renovation and expansion moving forward

A five million dollar renovation and expansion of Pioneer Hall is moving forward after a contract with RDG Architects was approved by the WNCC board Wednesday.

Pioneer Hall was established as the number one physical plant priority in the college's master plan. WNCC President Todd Holcomb says the Omaha architects recommended not only plumbing, window, and HVAC improvements improvements to the existing building but a way to add more than five dozen beds through a two story addition that shares some of the maintenance systems in the old building.

Holcomb says the project will also involve remodeling the closed down kitchen area, expanding the dining area and providing rooms for UNMC students currently working at the Harms Advanced Technology Center.

The project is being funded through plant facility and reserve funds plus revenue bonds. The project will be done from May 1st of 2014 through May 1st of 2015.
