Sheehy understands "wait and see" attitude on tax plan
Lt. Governor Rick Sheehy says he is not surprised with the wait and see attitude of most lawmakers to Governor Dave Heineman's plan to eliminate or sharply reduce income taxes by eliminating or reducing most of Nebraska's sales tax exemptions.
Most seem to share the position of Senator John Harms of Scottsbluff...who says the "devil is in the details" of which sales tax exemptions would be ended, which trimmed, and which would stay as they are.
During the a stop in Chadron Wednesday on his statewide tour Sheehy said Harms' position is reasonable.
Sheehy says that while he and the governor feel their plan to eliminate the income tax is the best one for Nebraska's future, they're open to hearing other ideas during what he expects to be a long and thoughtful dialog.
