Hemingford wins D5 title
The Hemingford Bobcats are headed to the Class D Boys State Golf Tournament in Kearney next week after winning the D5 District title Monday in Sidney.
The Bobcats shot a 402 to outdistance second place South Loup by 12 strokes. Mullen was third with a 419. The top three teams and top ten individuals, along with ties, make the state tournament field.
The Bobcats were paced by Jacob Horstman, who finished eighth Monday with a 96.
There were a number of area individuals who made the state tournament field with a top ten finish Monday. Lane Godfrey of Creek Valley was second with an 85, Kyle Gorsuch of Potter Dix was fourth with a 90, Colton Micheel of Crawford ended up in sixth with a 93, Brandon Lightfritz of Garden County was 7th with a 96, and Regg Strotheide of Hay Springs was ninth with a 98.
Meadowlark Hills in Kearney will play host to the Class D State Tournament next Tuesday and Wednesday.
Yesteray Meadowlark Hills was the site for the C5 District Tournament where Valentine came away with the team championship. Kearney Catholic and Chase County were the other two teams to qualify.
Bayard finished 6th in the team standings, Mitchell was 7th, Bridgeport 10th and Kimball 13th in the 15 team field.
The Longhorns' Henry Heeg finished second individually with a 75. That was two shots behind meet medalist Sam Sommers of Kearney Catholic.
Bayard's Trae Blanco earned a ticket to state with a ninth place 82.
