Public Safety improvements proposed in Bluffs budget
The proposed budget for the city of Scottsbluff the next fiscal year includes funding for an extra school resource officer and another firefighter.
City Manager Rick Kuckkahn says employing a second school resource officer is something the Scottsbluff school district feels they need for security reasons.
The officer would be based at the High School but also have a presence at the Middle School.
The additional firefighter would allow for three equal five man shifts, and provide for some efficiencies in scheduling and code enforcement.
Kuckkahn says utility rates will remain stable with a phasing in of the recycling fee into the sanitation rate as citizens obtain single-stream recycling containers.
Kuckkahn says the budget proposes to make improvements to pipes in the outdoor Splash pool as the city negotiates a new contract with the school district for outdoor pool use. They would also like to simply pay a fee for services used at the indoor pool.
